Wow! I could write a 5000 word treatise on this. I so get it. I have been there, done that. I call this process thresholds and passages. We all pass through our life stages and either take with us the baggage or move forward, keeping the knowledge gained but unburdened by what the world loads on us.
I can't even want to list all the things I have tried in my life - I wasn't really motivated by desire for fame or fortune though. I just needed to try. I have big stories about my designs and creations not only not being credited to me, but literally stolen. Imagine an entity as big as Family Circle Magazine doing this.
As I am fading here in the launch of my 80th year, disabilities gaining momentum daily, I still keep trying things. Not big physical things anymore but those that I can do while sitting, fingers flying on my laptop. Writing - composing lyrics then completed into music by AI.
And it's okay because I am free to be and do with no strings attached or obligations to some corporation. I have come to understand fame and recognition was not what God wanted for me. He just wanted me to be an unknown influence. To be an example of try, fail, try again.
Exactly, I just need to try. It’s not about making money but sharing the joy I get from making/creating and hope others will find that special joy too. Although, it doesn’t always sound like joy when I have to rip stitches out of something sewed or just can’t get paint colors right. Still there’s something about the process I need. It’s good to have kindred spirits who get it.
Here's a funny - couple weeks ago we had a huge family gathering celebrating two grands graduating from high school. I made a video, as I have done for many years. This time I was able to write the lyrics and create the background music. It was well received and after we all went back to visiting and milling about, one of the thirty somethings came up to me, clearly impressed, wanting to know if I write music professionally. I laughed and replied, why would I want to do that, it would make a joy into a job. LOL

So good. Keep going. We need your words, your pictures and your voice to remind us of all of God’s goodness. Thank you for staying obedient to sharing the gifts you have with all of us.
Thank you for these words. I am a TSA officer retiring in two weeks. Definitely big changes and challenges on the way. Who will I be? What should/could I do next? Will being at home with my hubby drive me crazy? All the questions! I enjoy reading your work and checking out your visuals. Keep on being creative - you’re an inspiration to many - including me!
Thank you, Glenda. Being an officer has my curiosity piqued. What territory are you in? I could write a ton on before/after retirement. I'll get some more concise thoughts together and message you.( It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be for me.)
Love this post. I have a lot of "undones" spread out in many different journals, and you've encouraged me to "come to terms" that some dreams written are okay to leave there, on that page from a different time.
Thank you, Lynn. I've got a some unfinished journals too. Not sure I want to look at them yet, but I'm getting better at making peace with the ones left undone.
What a beautiful post! I’m not surprised at all by the number of people who’ve used your photographs. You’re so talented! Of her notebook, my favorite writer, Joan Didion, said she wanted to “remember what it was to be me.” Sounds like you became reacquainted with who you were and how you felt in 2019. I’m glad I get to know her through this post and especially happy to know you now. ❤️
Thank you, Barbara. I like Didion too though I haven’t read enough from here so I’ll have to do that when I put down the paint brushes ;) I’ve been so glad to see your words and photos here now that you have a break from school. These interwebs (is that even a word?) need more words and photos from you.

I love hearing your story. It's been so good to do this online life together for decades now, I guess. You bring a creative beauty, a thoughtful soul, and astute wisdom to my life. I am grateful, Debby.
Gee, I guess it has been decades now. How great it that?! I’m incredibly humbled by your words. I’m grateful you’re still sharing God’s story of love and grace through this medium. Your faithfulness continues to inspire me.
I did not. That's the actual cover of the journal I referenced and the reason I bought that particular blank book. It's from a company called StudioOh!

You keep on creating for the joy. ❤️

Thank you, Cara. I’ve been thinking of you and wishing we were going to N. Carolina again this summer.

Question? Did you create the photo with the saying--the best way to get something done is to begin?
